India of my dreams: Visions 2047

On the occasion of Youth Day, I wrote the article on, India of my dreams: Visions 2047. It got published in the national newspaper The Tribune. Here are a couple of paragraphs from the article–>

I wake up to the clear blue sky, the glorious rising sun on the first day of 2047, and look around to admire the product of our hard work and determination. For twenty-five years, we have lived by the slogan, ‘Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.’ And finally, we have achieved our destination where a strong foundation for a great nation is in place; the foundation, rock-solid in more ways than one.

I put on my sneakers to go for a walk. A few minutes in, I spot middle-school students engaged in lively discussions with their teacher. Today, children look forward to going to school, keen to know what new wonders the teacher will unfold before them. In front of me, students are divided into three groups, each playing different roles — judge criminal-society, doctor-patient-relatives, and mason-builder-residents.

These experiential learning techniques drive home the value of professional prowess and integrity apart from sensitizing them to expressing opinions and participating in public affairs. Students explore their passions, debate real-world problems, and develop the relevant skills to solve them.

My music portfolio-Piano pieces

This clip consists of five pieces

  1. Mélodie -Fanny Hensel

This romantic piece is full of expression. Melodies sit on top of the accompaniment, which is shared between both hands.

2. Adante in A – Joseph Haydn

This Adante illustrates the double variations form that Haydn often used: variations on major and tonic minor teams alternate with one another.

3. Étude in A minor -Louise Farrenc

This Étude imitates the siciliana, a pastoral type of piece in a compound time with dotted rhythm.

4. Prelude in C major – JS Bach

This piece is the introduction to Bach’s Well-tempered Clavier, one of the most important works in keyboard history. It is a very beautiful and calming piece. The melody quickly gets stuck in one’s head. I started practicing this piece a week ago, and I have had a lot of fun playing around with its dynamics and expressions.

5.Plauderei – Theodor Kirchner

Plauderei means chat. One can notice how the melodies are shared like conversations between both the hands. This piece encompasses many of the ideas of a good chat.

Green Sustainable living, NSS Chandigarh

About a year and a half ago, for Earth day, Yuvsatta and NGO, along with The Chandigarh administration, had organised a short video making contest. For this, I made an 80-second video describing the greenery around my house. I composed the poem along with my sister and had her recite it. Later, I was thrilled to know that this video got selected for the top 5 best entries!!

My Kathak Performance!!

I had the honour of being invited to present a Kathak performance at Pracheen Kala Kendra on October 22, 2021.

The dance recital was a part of the Parampara series at M L Koser Indoor Auditorium. I took four years of formal education & training in Kathak dance under the guidance of Dr Amit Gangani. I have also performed at Tagore Theatre and Kalagram Cultural festival. A few years back, I had received the first prize in a Kathak dance competition conducted in the Tagore Theatre for children from the Tri-city!

My recital included Shlok Kasturi Tilakam and Kathak syllables like Thaat, Chakradar tode, Tukre , Paran, Premelu , Chalan, Kavit etc. I was accompanied by Dr Amit Gangani on Padhant and Tabla, Sh Abhishek Gangani on vocals and harmonium and Sh Manoj on Sitar.

My Kathak performance was followed by a Solo Tabla performance by Suhani Sharma. She presented Tabla in teen taal and played a Peshkar and a Kyada from Delhi, Dha te t Dha te t.

The audience enjoyed our performances and we got a big round of applause from them!

Conducting a Waste Segregation Workshop & Yoga Session

Around mid-august, an interactive workshop on solid waste segregation was organised with Ragpickers, Safaikaramcharis, and their work supervisors at Municipal Park, Kharar. As an NSS Volunteer and Project leader in Solid Waste Management, I led this initiative under the ambit of a Mohali-based NGO, Samaj Sanrakshan Samiti. I conducted the workshop by addressing the gathering, starting with the need for cleanliness, reducing waste generation, and then the importance of segregating solid waste. It was discussed that by separating dry waste from wet waste, the task of waste managers becomes easy; it saves their time, and they can extract more value from the trash increasing their earnings. Resultantly more work can be done by the limited number of people and hence it helps keep our surroundings clean and green. I raised some basic questions like,

why do people not segregate waste?

Perhaps old habits die hard. We need to change behaviours by consistent reminders, pointing out the gap every time waste is collected.

Sh Labhwinder Singh, a safaikaramchari, spoke, “We want to clean the place, but not soil our hands digging into the trash.”

Sh Gurpreet Singh expressed that waste segregation helps us recycle and reduce the trash going to the dumpsite.

A Yoga session was also conducted by me and Suhani Sharma for all the attendees after the waste management discussions. We taught them some simple Isha yoga exercises bringing alertness and health benefits to all.

Sh Hardarshanjit Singh, Sanitary Inspector thanked the NGO and the volunteers, Khushi (me), Suhani, Sonia, Jai, Heer, Gurpreet for conducting this workshop. I have been involved with Solid waste Management Project since May 2019, when I did a summer internship with MC Mohali for my Class X SEWA project. My paper ‘Segregating Waste at Source – the way to go’ was also published in Science Reporter, Jan 2020.

We are so proud of your achievements and honored to have you here with us, Sir

I would now request Suhani Sharma to present a floral welcome to Honourable Chief guest Sh Pargat Singh Ji.

Thank you, dear Suhani.

Now let me introduce to you Khushi Sharma, The author of “The Missing Prophecy: Rise of the Blue Phoenix.”

Khushi is a 12th-grade student of Carmel Convent School Chandigarh studying Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Economics. She is a two-time National bronze medalist in Squash. In addition, she enjoys playing piano, composing poems, songs, and singing them. Khushi is a kathak dancer whose recent performance at Pracheen Kala Kendra gathered audience applause. Her community outreach program and social service have been recognized at various forums. Khushi was also acclaimed as the youngest Isha yoga teacher at age eleven.

She has primarily grown up in Chandigarh, having spent a few years at Princeton and California in the USA.

“If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.” — Stephen King

She is an avid book reader- she must have read over a thousand books. ― In the words of Lisa See

“Read a thousand books, and your words will flow like a river.”

I witnessed Khushi’s reading journey in T.S. Central State Library, where she used to visit since she was a small kid along with her sister Suhani; they loved browsing books over shelves. The interest with which she turned pages of every book she picked….she wanted to read more and more… as her eyes glanced the stands, her brightened eyes expressed she wanted to read them all… Reading and writing both go hand in hand…. And here she is, with this beautiful book.

She wrote this book when the lockdown was imposed. 80% last year and then completed this year during holiday time.

In addition, Khushi is a research enthusiast. Last year, she grabbed our attention as she did extensive research on Covid-19, modeled disease progression and preparedness, and posted her research articles on blogwithkhushi.co.in.

With the onset of covid, when most students were binge-watching, she was busy collecting data on the spread of the infectious disease and analyzing it. She believes that sciences are not learned only to gather knowledge but also to find solutions to the problems we have in our surroundings. She even started a website, Blog with Khushi. In addition, she created a short video to inspire and create awareness among students of her age.

In this sci-fi novel of hers, I noticed how she wittingly incorporated her understanding of kinematics in creative writing while using expressions like’ the necessary torque to topple him,’ ‘line of center of gravity, and so on.

Fascinated by the interplay of elements and her inner journey, Khushi weaves this fantasy thriller with a lead female protagonist, Ember Hart, epitomizing courage, conviction, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership, all that Khushi stands for.

I’ve personally gone through the book, and it’s a fantastic unstoppable read!
